ScanNCut Snowflake Wreath – DIY Wreath

Did you get a Brother ScanNCut 2 for Christmas and are dying to try it out?! We’ve got the perfect project for you to get started with your ScanNCut — a DIY Snowflake Wreath.

ScanNCut project

The winter season is upon us! For those of us in Oklahoma, it doesn’t mean we’ll see a lot of snow – which is the perfect reason to add a touch of snow to our homes! This stacked snowflake wreath is a great way to celebrate the change of the season, no matter how cold (or not) your weather gets this winter.

Materials

  • Brother ScanNCut2 machine and accessories
  • USB memory stick
  • 10″ embroidery hoop – preferably wood
  • White acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Approximately 5 sheets of 12″x 12″ white patterned paper
  • Buttons
  • Foam adhesive mounting tape
  • Glue gun and glue

Instructions

Start off by separating the embroidery hoop. For this project, we are using just the inner circle (not the one with the hardware on it). Paint all the sides of the hoop white and allow it to dry.

Next, we need to cut out our snowflakes.

You can use the ScanNCut built-in designs, the free download snowflakes, or  scan in and then cut out your own. (I made my biggest flake 4” high and my  mallest about 1.5” high.) You will need to cut out a lot of them since they will be layered up. (I used about 40 snowflakes of various sizes.)

Once you are finished cutting, build your snowflakes by starting with the largest sized flake, and then, using foam adhesive, adhere a medium-sized flake on top of it, followed by a small flake on top of that. Vary your flakes so that some are stacked 2 high, and some 3 high.

The papers I used for my snowflakes are all white, with pearl-finish debossing. Mixing up the size, shape, and pattern of the flakes really individualizes each snowflake stack!

Using your glue gun, attach the snowflake stacks to the top of the hoop.

Apply one layer of snowflakes on the back side of the hoop to create depth. You can stagger different sized ones around to fill in any areas that need some filling out from the front view.

Add some embellishments (such as buttons) to your front facing snowflakes.

(I love how the layers of the snowflake stacks look so dimensional when it’s finished.)
